What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for the support you need to live in a shared home. It pays for help with daily tasks, so you can build independence and get care where you live.

SIL isn't in every NDIS plan. The NDIA decides who has it. If you're not sure, ask your support coordinator or planner.

  • Overnight support where your plan includes it

Questions to ask when choosing a SIL provider

Choosing a home is a big decision. Whoever you talk to, these questions help you compare providers. We're happy to answer all of them before you decide.

  • Is the provider registered with the NDIS Commission to deliver SIL?
  • Who will my housemates be, and how are housemates matched?
  • How many support workers are on shift, and is there overnight support?
  • Can I see the home and meet the team before I decide?
  • How are my goals and preferences recorded and reviewed?
  • What happens if my support needs change?
